Let's start by talking about a festival that has been held in Barbados since 2009 and attracts visitors from all over the world every year. Being the island known as the “rum capital of the world” for more than 300 years, this festival represents one of its most important traditions. It is celebrated in the last days of October and the inhabitants take to the streets to enjoy the local gastronomy of the best chefs and accompany their dishes with handcrafted drinks made from local ingredients.
Secondly, let's talk about a typical festival in the islands of St. Lucia, the Jounen Kwéyòl. What this celebration seeks is to unite the different influences that the French colonization has had on this volcanic island. It is also celebrated in the month of October, which is dedicated throughout its days to celebrate the Creole Heritage. For this purpose, all kinds of outdoor shows, artistic exhibitions and also gastronomic tastings with typical dishes developed with regional ingredients are carried out. It should be noted that it is a festival that is celebrated simultaneously throughout the island.
This is one of the smallest territories in the American continent, with a total population estimated at approximately 55 thousand inhabitants. However, its landscapes amaze its visitors and allow them to travel from mountains to small islands that give rise to unique images.
Since 1996, the region's annual music festival has been held here, bringing together local and international artists from mid-May to the end of June. It is an event that was born with the aim of promoting tourism and giving visibility to local music, hand in hand with exhibitions of excellent signature cuisine.
Finally, although the festivities and traditions to enjoy are innumerable, we want to highlight one that occurs throughout the Caribbean territory and is called Carifesta. It is a way of bringing together all the cultures and traditions of the region in a multinational artistic and creative expression unlike anything else on the planet. It was initially named the Caribbean Festival of the Arts and began to be held in 1972.
It is a festival that is celebrated every two years in the month of August and changes its venue. Its objective is to bring together artists and authors from different countries to exhibit the best artistic and folkloric manifestations of the Caribbean and Latin America. This, of course, is accompanied by the best gastronomy of the area.
